Cairo Felonies Court consults Mufti to execute defendants in ‘Marmina Church Incident, Helwan’ case

On Tuesday 16th April, 2019, Cairo Felonies Court have issued a judgement to refer the papers of two defendants to the Mufti for his opinion on executing them on the background of the case known as ‘Marmina Church Incident in Helwan’. The defendants are accused of establishing and funding a Takfiri group and killing 10 citizens. The court also scheduled the verdict session on the next 12th May.

Justice for Human Rights foundation-JHR affirms its rejection of the death sentences against the defendants, renew its appeal to immediately abolish the death penalty in Egypt, and also calls for a retrial for the defendants providing them this time with standards and guarantees of fair trial.
