In Kuwait, eight Egyptian citizens are at risk of torture and other cruel treatment

The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry announced the arrest of eight Egyptians – sentenced to imprisonment by the Egyptian judiciary – accused of political cases. It is noteworthy that the Egyptian judiciary lacks impartiality, integrity and independence, and issues judgments in violation of standards and guarantees of fair trials.

El-Shehab Centre for Human Rights-SHR and Justice for Human Rights foundation-JHR call upon the Kuwaiti authorities not to violate international human rights law and to stop the deportation of the eight Egyptian citizens to Egypt because that will endanger their lives and freedom, namely:

1 – Abdul Rahman Mohamed Abdul Rahman Ahmed
2-Abu Bakr Atef El-Sayed El-Fayoumi
3 – Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Abdel Moneim Ahmed
4- Mo’men Abu Al-Wafa Metwalli Hassan
5- Hossam Mohamed Ibrahim Mohammed El-Adl
6 – Walid Suleiman Mohamed Abdel Halim
7 – Nageh Awad Bahloul Mansour
8 – Faleh Hassan Mohamed.

SHR and JHR recommends that the State of Kuwait respect article 3 (1) of the Convention against Torture, which states that:
“No State Party shall expel, return (“refouler”) or extradite a person to another State where there are substantial grounds for believing that he would be in danger of being subjected to torture.”
