Details:
JHR organization has followed a case of serious medical negligence that took place against one of the political prisoners, Mr. Salih Ali, inside an Egyptian prison.
– Mr. Salih Ali is a political prisoner in Egypt, who is 63 years of age.
– He lost his eyesight as a result of poor medical care, and had hearing loss,
– He suffers from chronic diseases — hypertension, varicose veins, he has back braces, he has nerve weakness, he has weakness in his right foot, so his life is in danger.
– Article 10 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states: “All persons deprived of their liberty shall be treated with humanity and with respect for the inherent dignity of the human person.”
– This serious medical negligence is also incompatible with the rights of prisoners as set out in the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners, adopted by the United Nations Economic and Social Council and ratified by the Arab Republic of Egypt.
– We have closely followed this information and the complaints of medical negligence and torture we receive from Egyptian prisons. With the increase in deaths during this period, we are deeply concerned about the lives of prisoners in Egypt, especially opposition political prisoners in Egypt, in prisons, in particular, Mr. Salih Ali.
Therefore,
– We call on you to take urgent action to ensure respect for the right to life of prisoners and to stop all grave violations inside Egyptian prisons, particularly with regard to inappropriate health and medical care for political prisoners.
– We also demand a fair and transparent investigation on the case of Mr. Salih Ali, which is suspected of deliberate negligence.
– We also demand a fair and transparent investigation on the case of Dr. Mohamed Ali Beshr, which is suspected of deliberate negligence.
