Egyptian Authorities Detain International Lawyer Muhammed Akif and Confiscate His Passport

Justice for Human Rights Foundation-JHR condemns the Egyptian authorities’ detention of Turkish international lawyer Muhammed Akif Jan and a number of human rights activists, as well as the confiscation of their passports, without any legal basis or evidence of wrongdoing.

The foundation considers this measure a blatant violation of the detainees’ legal and human rights, as well as a breach of international conventions guaranteeing freedom of movement and the integrity of judicial procedures.

JHR calls on the Egyptian authorities to immediately release all detained activists and lawyers, uphold their international human rights obligations, and end the policy of repression and intimidation against rights and freedoms defenders.
