Approving death sentences of 17 citizens in ‘Bombing Churches’ case

Yesterday, 28th May 2019, the Supreme Court upheld the verdict of the Military Criminal Court in Alexandria as 17 citizens are sentenced to death, 19 are sentenced to life imprisonment, 8 are sentenced to 15 years in prison and a citizen is sentenced to 10 years in prison. These judgments are for the accusations against them in the case known for media as “Bombing of the Three Churches.”

JHR reiterates its rejection of the death sentences and reiterates its call for an immediate halt to the implementation of the death penalty in Egypt, especially in military cases of a political nature. The foundation also calls for retrying the defendants before a natural court that provides them with the standards and guarantees of the fair trial.
